Hello everyone,
I got a new "LtAP mini LTE kit (2024)" and I am having some trouble to get a decent connection. So far I managed to switch the DHCP server to a DHCP client and connect my main router with an IP tunnel and a LAN cable.
Sadly the connection is really poor and insufficient for most use.
Most websites wouldn't really load at all and according to the modem it is just a couple dozen KBit/s but widly varying. I live in a city of Germany, the next station of the provider (O2) is accoding to their map 1km away. On the provider's page also the entire area is marked as having fast internet. I tired moving the access point to our roof. The connectivity information in WinBox did show improvements but websites wouldn't really load subjectively better.
My questions are:
- Is this normal for mobile networking?
- Is it also just a result of my location? Please take a lookat the attached pictures.
- What are my options for improvement? Would another router with NxN crossover or 5G help a lot?
- Should I use an external receptor? Will it improve the situation significantly compared to putting the entire router directly in the location? In the datasheet it says 3.5 dbi. I am not sure what this exactly means but the receptor on the website (https://mikrotik.com/product/mant_lte_5o) is only 5 dbi which seems not much larger.
In short, I am hoping someone can give practical advice from experience. As it stands I can't use it for working at home when the main internet providers fails like it sometimes does.
