This router came from the factory with RouterOS 7.11.2, but with some really random setups — some units shipped with 7.16.0, and most of the drivers were flashed during production with 7.11.2 versions. Starting with 7.13.0, they completely messed up the Wi-Fi drivers by splitting the wave2 package into two separate ones. Ever since then, they’ve never quite managed to get the drivers working properly again.
Currently, I’m running the latest 7.19beta8, and I still get random disconnects. Honestly, I’m at the point where I’m ready to smash this router with a hammer. For a brand that has such a big name in networking, it's shocking how bad their Wi-Fi implementation is — especially when brands like Asus, TP-Link, Mercury, and D-Link have managed to do it better.
Back to the point — if you care about Wi-Fi stability, 7.11.2 (or even 7.11.3) gives you probably the most stable experience on this router. Keep in mind though, this is a half-baked Wi-Fi 6 home router. Wi-Fi 6 should support 160MHz channels, not just the low-end 80MHz ones.![🤦♂️]()
I even tried upgrading the antennas to some 20dBi 50ohm monsters — but yeah, with broken drivers, it made zero difference.
P.S. If anyone out there is a MikroTik OS fan like me (it is like a Swiss Army knife OS), and you're researching before buying this router or any other Wi-Fi-enabled MikroTik device… just don’t — unless you plan to disable the built-in Wi-Fi and use a separate access point. If that's your plan, sure, go for it.
But for me, switching from this to a Ubiquiti UBR7 or even an Asus Wi-Fi 7 router feels like it would’ve been a way better choice.
