I recently replaced a very old WiFi N router with hAP ac2 at my relative's place. One PC had a very old Linksys USB WiFi N adapter that worked fine with the old router. However, something is very strange with ac2. The adapter connects to WiFi, meaning I see it in the registration table and in the logs, but it cannot get DHCP IP. There is no issue with DHCP server on ac2, there are many other devices on both 5GHz and 2.4GHz that connect and work without any issues.
I put a workaround in place by using the old router in wireless bridge mode to provide connectivity to that one PC. This old USB adapter was going to be replaced anyway since it's way too slow to even achieve their ISP bandwidth.
But as an engineer I don't like to leave problems unsolved or at least without an explanation. I also don't want to run into the same issue with another device that might be more critical. So I took this adapter with me and tested at home, where I have Ruckus R710 AP. It connected immediately, no issues. I thought, OK, I will try to reproduce it with another ac2 at home. And sure enough, it's behaving exactly the same—connects to WiFi but can't get an IP. When I tried to set static IP, there was still no connectivity.
Like I said above, this is not really an issue as the adapter won't get used. However, I'm curious to understand why MikroTik router doesn't work with it. There is nothing in the logs to indicate any issue. Is it MT being finicky with some clients? I tried a few different channels, tried 20MHz channel width to no avail.
