RouterBOARD hardware • Devices bricked by protected-routerboot

I now have several old 802.11n devices (SXTsq5, LHG5 - probably the same board inside) bricked by the protected-routerboot feature.
Some mistake in the configuration (not sure what exactly) happened that caused the devices to have a boot-loop.
In an attempt to recover by Netinstall, reset button was held for a long time (long enough, LED slow flashing) and then after the button was released, devices enter a state where only the top 3 signal level LEDs are on, no ethernet link, no reaction to reset button anymore, so no way to Netinstall. It seems during the reset device reformatted itself completely, including boot loader that shouldn't have been erased.
Devices are now out of warranty, some hardly ever used (look like new, some were in warranty when this happened but back then I thought it was just a single accident, now I have accumulated several of them that failed the same way).
Since it seems to be a faulty protected-routerboot implementation by MT, is there any chance to recover by RMA (probably getting new devices in exchange for the failed ones, which I can physically send to MT for analysis if requested) even after warranty?
